Mitsubishi i-Miev Sport Air Concept

At the 2012 New York International Auto Show, Mitsubishi rolled its bubbly i-Miev Sport Air concept. It’s a 3-door hatchback concept car that features a stronger motor than the current i-Miev and has a solar panel and a large removable translucent roof panel.

The Mitsubishi i-Miev Sport Air has a max output of 80 hp and 170 ft-lb of torque. It has a very low center of gravity and a 50-50- weight distribution which makes it handle great around curves. The motor is located mid-ship and the transmission is located just forward of the rear axle beneath the rear seat (not sure where the batteries are).

Although the Mitsubishi i Miev Sport Air has not been rated by the EPA, it’s expected to get over 120MPGe under ideal driving conditions – the current i-Miev was rated at 112MPGe by the EPA. The 330V high-tech lithium ion battery pack charges in about 7 hours but those who need to do a quick charge can get the battery to about 80% capacity in about 35 minutes. The current Mitsubishi i Miev can get 62 miles on a charge, and the i-Miev Sport Air should do something similar.

No word yet on price or production plans (or rear headroom!), as the Mitsubishi i-Miev Sport Air was called a concept.
