BMW unveils a Concept5 X5 eDrive Plug-in hybrid vehicle

The X5 eDrive concept will make its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and BMW has released some preliminary photos and specifications.

The X5 plug-in hybrid has a fuel consumption rating of 62 mpg US, features an electric motor rated at 95 hp, and has a lithium ion battery pack that can provide up to 19 miles of electric-only range. The fun part of the X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid vehicle is that it is off-road capable with all-wheel-drive. This vehicle could compete with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV if it ever makes it to production.

The gasoline engine used in the eDrive setup is a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine with around 180hp. 0-62 mph can be achieved in around 7 seconds.

We’ll get the rest of the details next month when the BMW x5 eDrive concept is fully unveiled in Frankfurt.

  1. The Outlander has twice the electric range and is available now.

This concept car is outdated before it even hits Frankfurt.
