Mitsubishi’s all electric vehicle sales in Japan fall, Outlander PHEV sales rise

Over the last 2 months, sales in Japan of Mitsubishi’s pure electric vehicles have fallen to just 116 vehicles in May. Mitsubishi sold 62 passenger i-MiEV vehicles, 47 Minicab-MiEVs and 7 Truck Minicab MiEVs. Last year in 2012, Mitsubishi was selling on average 400 pure electric vehicles per month.

The rebadged/cloned i-MiEVs in Europe, that sell under the Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn badges are disappearing in Europe, and there is no 2013 or 2014 model of the i-Miev in North America. All of these indicate that perhaps Mitsubishi is thinking of exiting the electric vehicle segment all together to focus on hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV continues to sell in the thousands in Japan (despite the battery recall), and it’s soon to hit North America.
